Diagnosis
Male is distinct from other large and dark Notogomphus species by combination of (1) very large size, Hw 40-42 mm; (2) face all dark except for pale bar across centre of frons and largely pale occiput; (3) postdorsal stripes lie close to pale area of middorsal carina and collar, may be merged; (4) antehumeral stripes absent; (5) posterior hamules slightly broader near apex than at base; (6) cerci falcate, tapering to incurved point; (7) ventral tooth of cerci with swelling at base.
Habitat description
Streams in open areas in forest or shaded by gallery forest. Often with coarse detritus and a sandy bottom. From 1300 to 1800 m above sea level, but possibly down to 100.
